What is Evidence-Based Practice?

"Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is a thoughtful integration of the best available evidence, coupled with clinical expertise. As such it enables health practitioners of all varieties to address healthcare questions with an evaluative and qualitative approach." -- University of Minnesota Libraries

This evidence can include:

  • current and past primary research literature
  • systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and other analytical summaries of the research
  • clinical guidelines and best practices

Differentiating between high and low-quality resources is essential.
